Seminar session examines health informatics

The Duke Translational Medicine Institute, in partnership with the School of Medicine Division of Clinical Informatics and the School of Nursing, is sponsoring a seminar series on the application of biomedical informatics to clinical practice and research.

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the seminar is on health informatics: “DEDUCE: Duke Enterprise Data Unified Content Explorer. “ Jeff Ferranti, M.D., will speak. The location is Room 1011, Duke University School of Nursing, on Trent Drive.

Leveraging the extensive body of work currently being conducted at Duke, this series explores key areas in which biomedical informatics is being used to improve human health.  The seminars are geared for practicing clinicians and researchers, staff supporting clinicians and researchers and students within the schools of medicine and nursing, and the Clinical Research Training Program.

Refreshments will be available before the seminar.  Presentations will be recorded and archived online for post-production public viewing.

Topics cover a wide varietyof subjects including microarray, applications, online bioinformatics resources, clinical data repositories, disease registries, clinical image management, and data collection options.

A bioinformatics topic is scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month from 4-5 p.m. A health informatics topic is scheduled for the third Wednesday of every month, 4-5 p.m.

All sessions are held in DUSON Room 1011.
