Session: Smart women can overcome risks

posted January 19th, 2009

Duke Raleigh Hospital is hosting the Jan. 29 Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Executive Women’s Luncheon with Barbara Stoker, personal leadership and risk expert.

Women are natural leaders, yet are often reluctant to take risks necessary for greater success. Stoker’s presentation will encourage them to step beyond theory and become actively involved in tackling the mountains in their own life.

This program will help women discover a new perspective, spark their imagination and ignite their spirits so that they are better able to take the risks that will make a difference to their customers, organization and self.

The presentation will:

  • Explore the four strategies requred to risk successfully.
  • Discuss the 15 critical questions every woman should ask.
  • Explore the risks women face, how they define success and where to find the courage to see it through
  • Look at the courage ratio and the invisible risks women take when they try to play it too safe.
  • Discuss how to build a route that capitalizes on strengths, talents and abilities.

Stoker is one of the country’s foremost thinkers on women and risk. She acquired her expertise in risk-taking through a dynamic career that includes: licensing several Walt Disney movies; launching Hallmark’s gift business; and developing Porcelain Barbie for Mattel toys.  She applies the concept of IntelligentRisking” to all areas of her life - both personally and professionally.
