Siren tests this week

posted July 15th, 2008

On Wednesday and Thursday, Duke University’s new outdoor warning system will be activated for the first time and tested intermittently as part of the installation process. Testing is expected to take place from 2-4:30 pm Wed; and 8-4:30 p.m. Thurs.

People outdoors on campus, and in nearby neighborhoods, will hear loud tones and live and recorded messages.

Please review the siren locations below. Please help make people in your work area aware that this is non-emergency testing.

Siren poles are located in the following areas:

  • MEDICAL SOUTH: near the intersection of LaSalle and Circuit, behind the North Building parking area.
  • MEDICAL NORTH: near the hospital and VA, at the corner of Fulton and Elder Streets.
  • EAST CAMPUS: off West Markham Avenue in an area near the tennis courts and Pegram-Carr lot.
  • CENTRAL CAMPUS: off Pace Street and Oregon.
  • DUKE GARDENS: off Anderson Street, across from the Gardens.
  • WEST CAMPUS: off Frank Bassett Drive, near the grounds office and Duke Sports Medicine.
  • WEST CAMPUS: off Science Drive, near Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy.
