SOM in top 10 again in U.S. News ‘08 rankings

somDuke University School of Medicine extended its run of top-10 showings in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings, placing 6th among the nation’s leading medical schools for 2008.

“Our continued presence in the top 10 is a significant accomplishment for our school, and I want to congratulate all of the faculty, staff and students who make our institution what it is,” said Dean Nancy Andrews, M.D., Ph.D. “We should be proud to be recognized as one of the very best places for medical education and research.”The U.S. News ratings, announced April 23, are the most recognized ranking process and are testament to Duke’s continued excellence as a national leader. They are based on an array of factors, including peer assessment, students’ average score on the medical school entrance exam, acceptance rate, students’ average undergraduate grade point average,National Institutes of Health research grants per faculty member, faculty-student ratio, tuition and enrollment. Duke also ranked 6th in 2007.

In specialty areas, Duke ranked 4th in geriatrics, 5th in internal medicine, 9th in family medicine, 9th in women’s medicine, and 10th in AIDS.
