The two sides of Bob Beichner: Duke Raleigh volunteer and award-winning professor
posted April 1st, 2010
Bob Beichner, Duke Raleigh Hospital volunteer and N.C. State University professor.
For more than five years, he has unselfishly helped others here at Duke Raleigh Hospital. At the same time, he has been busy raising the bar as a professor at N.C. State University.
Dr. Robert “Bob” Beichner, a Duke Raleigh Hospital Care Ambassador volunteer, has received the 2010 Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching at N.C. State University. Coordinated by the UNC Board of Governors, the honor is the most prestigious award given to faculty for teaching excellence. When Dr. Beichner is not at Duke Raleigh, he works as Alumni Distinguished Professor of Physics and Director of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Initiative at NCSU.
The honors don’t stop there. Bob was also named the North Carolina Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
The Professor of the Year Award came on the heels of a national honor for Bob. In October 2009, he received the Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award from the Society for College Science Teachers, an affiliate of the National Science Teachers Association.
Congratulations, Bob!
