Tough road ahead in blood-drive competition

posted November 14th, 2008

Duke faces a steep uphill battle in its blood-drive competition with UNC.

What began as a friendly contest between the newly formed Duke chapter of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing and the Carolina Chapter may end up in an embarrassing defeat for Duke.

UNC already is ahead by 336 units of blood.

Three of the four Red Cross blood drives are being held in the School of Nursing. You can sign up at duke.givesblood.org and look for signs in the DUSON building to direct you to the right spot.

Here is the schedule:

11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14
11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 17
11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18

The last Red Cross blood drive on campus this month will be held in Von Canon Auditorium B & C at the Bryan Center on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Can’t make it to the blood drives on campus? No problem!

Visit the American Red Cross Web site at www.givelife.org or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) to find a blood drive happening right now in your area AND send an e-mail—including the name of the donor(s) and the date and location of the donation site—to stefanie.conrad@duke.edu by Monday, Nov. 24, to make your donation count toward Duke’s cause. Family and friends can donate on behalf of Duke, so forward the message far and wide!

The winner of the blood drive competition and the total number of units collected will be announced at the Duke-UNC football game on Nov. 29.
