Workshop highlights Patient Advocacy Week
posted April 14th, 2009Patient Advocacy Week, April 12-18, is a time to acknowledge the important role of those who bear the title “patient advocate” as well as all who provide advocacy throughout Duke University Hospital.
In celebration of Patient Advocacy Week, DUH Patient & Visitor Relations and the DUHS Patient Advocacy Council held a workshop on “Finding Your Voice” featuring Tiffany Christensen. The workshop was April 15 in 2001 Duke North Lecture Hall.
Christensen, a member of Duke’s Patient Advocacy Council, was born with cystic fibrosis and has had two double lung transplants to save her life. After a lifetime with chronic and terminal illnesses, Christensen is now enjoying the best time of her life and is grateful to be an author, public speaker and illness coach. She is passionate about bringing her message of advocacy, acceptance and hope to patients, families, students and health care professionals. “Having fun with serious stuff” is Christensen’s motto.
